My mother in law pulled me aside and asked me if she could get a hamster for my daughter for Christmas. I had to laugh, because I had some rules that had to be followed before she could get one, and she had not done what she needed to do. I guess my daughter thought it might be easier to ask Grandma for the hamster. Unfortunately, my landlord recently told me that she didn’t want any new pets, though fish would be acceptable. I told my mother in law that if she wanted to get her a complete aquarium set, then that would be just fine. However, fuzzy critters are now out of the question.
I told her to get a complete aquarium set because I didn’t want to be running around to find everything that is needed if that is what she gets her this year. When we get home from our Christmas with my husband’s family, and my little girl has a fish tank, she is going to want to put it to good use right away. That means that if I don’t have everything you would find in a complete aquarium set, I am going to be doing more shopping, which is quite frankly the last thing I am going to want to be doing at that time of the year. Shopping is great, but I’m worn out by the end of December.
When you think about it, getting a complete aquarium kit is probably the easiest and fastest way to go, and if you have permission to get an aquarium for a child, the parents are going to love that they don’t have to go buy more stuff to go with it, unless of course, they go out to get fish. It saves time, and you know everything included will work together like it should without having to second guess purchases. These should come with filters, aquarium, and many of the different things you put inside like the gravel and the plants.
When searching for a complete aquarium, you may find a set at your local pet store, or you can find them online in some cases. Shipping can be tricky when dealing with glass, but most who sell them know exactly how to protect such things when they go through the mail. You can probably save money when buying a complete aquarium set as opposed to buying everything separately, and you will also be glad you don’t have to worry about forgetting something. The Auto Pet Feeder - Things to Consider
Having a pet in the family seems as common in the United States as having children. In fact there are more homes with pets than there are with children because of the number of people that keep animals once they are done raising children and because of the number of young single people that adopt a pet. We spend millions of dollars annually to care for our animal friends. There are many exotic pets that people have tried, but by far the most popular pets continue to be the dog and cat.
The argument over which of these animals makes the best pet has been fought since both were domesticated. As long as a dog lover and cat lover remain alive the argument will not be settled. The one issue of having a pet is taking care of them during vacation. This is where the argument of having a cat or dog gives the advantage point to cats. If you have a clean litter box an auto pet feeder and a large bowl of water a cat can be left for several days on their own. They may not be very happy when you come home and may shun you in the way that cats have perfected through the years, but their care needs will have been taken care of. Unfortunately with a dog they need to be taken outside on a routine basis to urinate and defecate. This means wither hiring someone to come to your house to walk the dog twice a day of boarding the dog at a kennel. We had a neighbor that was willing to come over and take our dogs for a run in the woods in the morning and evening; however we thought it would be easier if we bought the auto pet feeder so he would not have to deal with their food. We have a water spigot on the outside of the house for him to bring fresh water daily. So we thought that if we filled the auto pet feeder he would be able to come over and take care of the dogs in a short period of time.
We learned that we should have taught the dogs how to manage the auto pet feeder prior to leaving on vacation. Our dogs are used to getting fed twice a day. They are fed at the same time and quickly eat their food. They are not used to having a supply of food available to them. Our neighbor told us that they ate all the food we left in the first day. Both dogs were feeling sick from over eating and our neighbor had to go buy another bag of food because we had locked the shed where we keep the food supply. The auto pet feeder is a great device, but like anything else the animals need to be taught how to regulate themselves using it.

Products For Animals - Some Christmas Advice

My husband and I both grew up in households that had pets. My husband’s family did a great deal of hunting so they had various hunting dogs while he was growing up. My family had a dog outside as well as a cat indoors. I have always been very partial to cats. Through the years some of my very best friends have been cats. I love how independent they are and yet they enjoy being around people. I have always been blessed with very social cats.
Pets and our love for them has become a million dollar industry in this country. In most stores there is some type of products for animals to buy. Of course there are the huge warehouse type superstores that sell nothing but products for animals, but it seems that recently most department stores are getting into this line of merchandise as well. This is especially true around holiday time. Merchants know that we are not going to forget our pets when it comes to the gift giving holidays.
My cats seem to be more excited about the holidays every year. They love having the decorated tree in the house. They do not climb into the tree like one of my co-workers cats. They simply like to sit and look at the ornaments. Once in a while our youngest cat will gently bat at an ornament to make it move. Last year while I was out finishing my holiday shopping I saw a huge display for different products for animals. There was everything from clothing items, to toys to gourmet treats. Of course most of the products for cats are filled with catnip. My two cats absolutely love catnip. I could not resist buying them each a catnip toy as well as a box of fresh catnip leaves. The leaves were vacuumed sealed in a plastic bag to keep them fresh. I wrapped each of their toys separately and put both of their names on the catnip.
The night before Christmas we heard a noise in the corner underneath the tree. Our young cat was in the process of opening up one of the catnip toys. She had not disturbed any of the other gifts. She must have been able to smell the catnip through the wrapping. When our older cat saw the toy they started fighting over it. We had to get the second toy from under the tree so he could have his also. I was glad that the fresh leaves were sealed. This year I am going to have to wait until Christmas day to put the products for animals under the tree, they are worse than kids.
